Detective Chirpums: Private Investigator is a visual novel that could, quite easily, best set in the same world as pigeon dating sim Hatoful Boyfriend. It’s a noir-themed mystery game in which you play the titular avian investigator.
Set in a city full of thieving magpies and law-upholding wrens, you are the city’s only detective, out to clean up the crooks and cronies. As the noir inspiration demands, Chirpums flutters about in a tan overcoat and rests up by downing a bottle of Grackle’s Finest.
Unfortunately, his wreck of a lifestyle means that paying his rent can be tough – he needs to solve a case quick, and get paid. So, off you hop, helping Chirpums to solve puzzles and a crime led by a femme fatale into the heart of The Roost.
As with Hatoful Boyfriend, Detective Chirpums does have a bit of a satirical tone shining through its otherwise completely serious presentation. It’s a lighthearted visual novel about a city of birds; of course it’s a little bit comedic.
