Comic author Stephanie Phillips has revealed the new Yoshitaka Amano Harley Quinn variant cover, which will be used for the first issue of her upcoming run with the ongoing Harley Quinn series. Yoshitaka Amano is known for his work creating illustrations, character designs, and logos for the Final Fantasy series, although he has also worked on a wide range of other projects.
Phillips first announced that she would be writing the comic on December 6, 2020. The author, who also portrayed the character with the Future State: Harley Quinn limited series, will be working on the new series with the comic artist, Riley Rossmo.
While Yoshitaka Amano is commonly associated with Final Fantasy games, he is no stranger to working on other properties. In 2004, Amano portrayed David Bowie for the Neil Gaiman story, Return of the Thin White Duke. In 2007, Amano worked on art for a collaboration between Monster Strike and Final Fantasy as the latter celebrated the 30th anniversary of the series. Last year, the artist created a collaboration gallery with Fate/Grand Order characters.
At the moment, it is unclear if Amano will provide other variant covers for DC’s Harley Quinn series. It also isn’t clear how easy it will be to obtain copies of the variant cover. Harley Quinn #1 will be available in March, and some comic shops are already taking pre-orders for the issue.
