Sting Entertainment used to be well known for its “Dept. Heaven” series of RPGs, which started out with Riviera: The Promised Land and Yggdra Union. In 2009, the developer struck up a partnership with Atlus, and continued its Dept. Heaven series with Knights in the Nightmare and Gungnir, both of which were published by Atlus worldwide.

Following this, Sting partnered up with Idea Factory in 2012 to form a new company named “Super Sting”. Eventually, Sting began working more closely with Idea Factory’s subsidiary, Compile Heart, on spin-off games in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. They were also behind Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception.

As of last year, Sting has been tapping into its roots. In 2019, the developer ported Yggdra Union and Baroque: Syndrome to smartphones. It also ported Macho de Pon!, a Flash game where you train to become a bodybuilder, to the Nintendo Switch. Macho de Pon! was originally developed by Sting way back in 2008, so with the news that Yggdra Union is now headed to the Switch as well, we could see more of Sting’s classic catalogue show up there in the future.
