Yes, Square Enix’s Sleeping Dogs Is True Crime: Hong Kong

Yesterday, Square Enix announced a new title — Sleeping Dogs — slated for release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We suspected this game might be the title formerly called True Crime: Hong Kong, and it turns out that it is.

Set in Hong Kong, Sleeping Dogs has you playing as Wei Shen, an undercover cop attempting to take down the Hong Kong triads from the inside. Last year, we shared pages from the game’s script, which give a good idea of the tone of its story.

Sleeping Dogs is being developed by United Front Games in partnership with Square Enix London Studios. Prior to being picked up by Square Enix, True Crime: Hong Kong was cancelled by Activision. While Square picked up the rights to the game itself, they didn’t buy the rights to the True Crime brand, which is why the game has a different title now.

Square Enix will release Sleeping Dogs in the second half of 2012. You can watch a new live-action announcement trailer for the game above.
