While an interview with Famitsu discussed the possibility of porting Final Fantasy XI to PlayStation Vita, Square Enix’s most recent online game Final Fantasy XIV was not discussed. Whatever happened to bringing Eorzea to PlayStation 3?
Naoki Yoshida, director, assured fans development is moving forward and Square Enix still intends on releasing a PS3 version.
Yoshida also shared plans for future Final Fantasy XIV updates. Instanced Raids are what he’s most excited for players to get their hands on. He’s also working on the Materia crafting system and an Ifrit battle. Final Fantasy XIV will also get a jump command sometime in the future. No, not an attack evading Dragoon style jump, a regular jump.
"All I can say is that we are not emphasizing jumping with the jump key as a means to cover vast distances on the map or an element that must be used during battle strategies… Maybe it’s easiest to say it will just be like the jump you generally see in MMO’s," Yoshida said.
Yoshida sounds like he’s been working non-stop on Final Fantasy XIV. The newly appointed director worked on Final Fantasy XIV for 22 hours straight and only gets between two and three and half hours a night since he started this job.
