The latest Famitsu issue has a special coverage on Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together to celebrate the title’s 25th anniversary from its original release on the Super Famicom. One of the interesting points is the interview with the game’s creator Yasumi Matsuno, where the magazine tried to hypothesize the future of the game, along with the entire Ogre Battle series. - (When asked if there’s a possibility for a new episode in the Ogre Battle saga)
Yasumi Matsuno: “Wouldn’t it be better if you ask Square Enix about that? (laughs)” - (When asked which route would be the canon one—including Wheel of Fate—assuming Tactics Ogre gets a hypothetical sequel)
Matsuno: “I have no intention to make a declaration on that.” - “Perhaps it could be an illusionary route not depicted in the games. (laughs)”
- “It’d be good if I can live up to expectations, such as a sequel. However, the business implications will get stronger there, after all. So I’d say it’d be quicker if you just ask Square Enix about that. (laughs)”
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is a strategy game made by Quest as a sequel to Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen. It was first released on the Super Famicom (SNES) in Japan on October 6, 1995. It was also brought to the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation—the latter platform also had a North American localization in 1998.
Quest was later acquired by Square Enix, which then released a remake of Tactics Ogre for the PlayStation Portable in Japan in November 2010 and also in the West in February 2011.
Yasumi Matsuno himself recently helped in creating the Save the Queen quest line for Final Fantasy XIV, although he also teased a sequel to Vagrant Story on Twitter in April 2020.
