Yakuza 5 sold 356,757 copies in its first week in Japan, upon its release. Sales tracking firm, Media Create, report that was 65.80% of the game’s initial shipment. This is a little bit lower than the last couple of Yakuza games.
Yakuza 4, which was released in 2010, sold 383,972 copies in its first week, and sold 72.01% through of its shipment in that week.
Meanwhile, Yakuza 3, released in 2009, sold 372301 copies in its first week, and sold through 78.57% of its shipment during that week.
The slight drop in Yakuza 5 figures doesn’t really seem like anything to get worked up over. It’s the third—fourth, if you count Yakuza: Kenzan—game in the series on the PlayStation 3, and sales have remained fairly stable. It looks like the series has quite the dedicated fanbase that’s willing to jump in early.
