Yahoo published its Japan Search Awards for 2022, and both Spy x Family and Splatoon 3 were among the most popular. The awards look at search terms that became more popular than usual between 2021 and 2022. There are multiple categories, ranging from musicians to athletes to products. The entire list is available on the Yahoo website.
Because Yahoo is a popular search engine in Japan, these winners give a good look at cultural trends in the country. This article will focus on four of the select categories, as well as noteworthy entries in other ones. For some of them, Yahoo gave reasons for why a particular term became more popular that year.
