Xiao the Vigilant Yaksha Leads the Genshin Impact 1.3 Trailer

Genshin Impact 1.3

As promised on January 21, 2021, a trailer for the Genshin Impact 1.3 update dropped ahead of a special program. Central to it is Xiao, Vigilant Yaksha, the next playable character to join the game’s growing roster. Besides Xiao, the update also previews new content players will be able to chew on, including boss battles, character and story quests, and promotions.

Check out the trailer for Genshin Impact 1.3, “All That Glitters”:

The Genshin Impact 1.3 update trailer opens with the Traveler and Paimon attending the Lantern Rite, a lantern-lighting festival held in Liyue Harbor. Xiao also shows off his fighting style, as he is the first five-star Anemo-element polearm user. His elemental burst ability seems to involve donning a sinister mask and unleashing wide area-of-effect attacks. Also previewed are a series of boss fights against elementally empowered Vishaps, dragon-like creatures usually encountered in their burrowing, Geo-infused form.

The trailer also previews the Lantern Rite event, which will contain the main “All That Glitters” story quest, an activity called “Lantern Rite Tales,” the “Theater Mechanicus” (what appear to be a set of puzzle-like areas), and “Xiao Market.” Besides the event, a promo called “Stand By Me” implies players will be able to take their pick of a number of four-star, Liyue-based characters. Xiangling, Xinyan, Beidou, Ningguang, Xingqiu, and Chongyun are shown in the list.

Other activities are teased and unconnected to the Lantern Rite. “Five Flushes of Fortune” shows off a photography mechanic, and “Vishaps and Where to Find Them” challenges players to hunt down unusual vishaps. Players who have characters in need of levelling may appreciate the “Ley Line Overflow,” which could boost rewards of experience items from Leyline blossom challenges.

The Genshin Impact 1.3 Update will go live on February 3, 2021. The game is immediately available for PS4, PC, and mobile devices. A Nintendo Switch version is in development.
