The event organizers were preparing to host Wonder Festival 2021 Winter on February 7, 2021. This involved working closely with the city and Makuhari Messe event hall on taking appropriate COVID-19 prevention measures for the event. However, the state of emergency declared in the greater Tokyo comes with a rule that limits the number of spectators and attendees of big events to 5,000 people. Since WonFes 2021 Winter already had close to 6,500 people listed for just the exhibit dealers alone, it made it no longer possible to host it.

For this reason, and the safety of everybody involved, the Wonder Festival organizers decided to cancel Wonder Festival 2021. The organizers deeply apologized to everybody that looked forward to the event. Those who’ve already purchased tickets for the event can check here for more information on refunds.

In May 2020, Wonder Festival organizers canceled the 2020 Autumn event due to the pandemic. While the semiannual event normally takes place in the summer and winter, it was moved to the fall as a “2020 Autumn” event to accommodate the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
