The Wii U will allow for video chat with other Wii U owners. Nintendo’s global president, Satoru Iwata, demonstrated this in a Nintendo Direct presentation, by chatting with Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime, this morning.
While chatting, the two demonstrated, you will be able to draw images on the Wii U GamePad, which both participants will be able to see. Iwata points out that, since you can chat with other users without the use of the TV, you could, for instance, chat up a friend while watching a sports program on the television.
If the Wii U chat application isn’t turned on, and you get a call from a friend when you’re in the middle of a game, the Home button on the Wii U GamePad will flash to let you know you have a call waiting.
