Why Is the Little Kitty, Big City Cat Scared of Cucumbers?

You may notice in Little Kitty, Big City that the cat we play as has a negative response to and seems scared of cucumbers. However, you may not understand why these items are as “terrifying” as a dog barking or touching water. It’s actually a tribute to a series of internet videos.

So why does the cat get scared and hiss when it sees cucumbers in Little Kitty, Big City?

Basically, this Little Kitty, Big City situation is a reference to a meme that went around suggesting that cats are scared of cucumbers. In reality, the animals were probably just startled that a long, thin item suddenly appeared when they didn’t expect it. However, the internet seized upon that and the idea that the fruit terrifies them.

Here’s one of the compilation videos suggesting it:

So whenever the cat in the game sees a cucumber, they will react with shock and hissing. This is a momentary response. After the initial reaction, which will also result in any carried item being dropped, the kitty will calm down. At that point, you can then pick up the cucumber and carry it as an item or walk past it without any additional response.

There are only two places in which the cat can encounter cucumbers in Little Kitty, Big City. The first is at the grocery store. At the back of it is an open door. If you go through it into the alley, you’ll find a cucumber lying on the ground and crates of cucumbers. (Cue the cat’s shocked response.) You can only pick up the cucumber on the ground and not take the ones in the box.

It is also possible to find a cucumber when dumpster diving in a trash can. When this happens, after the kitty gets the shinies to come out, the cucumber will also fly out. There will be the momentary hissy fit.

The cat also responds like this to dogs and water in Little Kitty, Big City.

Little Kitty, Big City is available for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC
