Square Enix are releasing a Nintendo 3DS port for Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, and they’re adding two party members, extra scenarios and more. Producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto got together with V-Jump to share the latest on the game.

After a short introduction on Dragon Quest VIII, the footage begins at 5:05, where we get to see a some field exploring. It’s also noted that Dragon Quest VIII on the Nintendo 3DS version will have visible encounters, rather than random ones, similar to Dragon Quest VII on 3DS.

Next, Fujimoto shows us a bit of how the maps work on the 3DS bottom screen. Areas are indicated with markers, and you can simply touch the icons to see their names, making it a lot easier to navigate your way around the world.

Fujimoto also mentions that the fields won’t support stereoscopic 3D, and the reason for this is that it would use up double the memory, and it would’ve been too tough to add the visible encounters and the vast distances you can see on the fields with the stereoscopic 3D.

Dragon Quest VIII on 3DS adds new blue treasure chests. Unlike the red chests, these will respawn over time, and they’ll contain things like gold.

There are also new monsters in this version of the game, like the “Slime Pudding” shown in the above screen.

Dragon Quest VIII will have voiced scenes in all the events in the game this time around, and we can hear some of it from the Japanese version of the game at the 9:45 mark of the video, where they meet Angelo in a bar. They show another event at the 12:58 mark, where we get to see Angelo’s half-brother Marcello.

Dragon Quest VIII will release in Japan on August 27, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS.
