Past Metroid games have been composed primarily by Hirokazu “Hip” Tanaka or by Kenji Yamamoto, also known for his work on Punch-Out!!
Metroid: Other M, however, is being composed by Kuniaki Haishima. You may not have heard of him, so here’s partial list of some of his work you just might have come across:

Composer – Siren 2 (PS2)
Composer – Kamen Rider (Anime)
Composer / Theme song – Monster (Anime)
Composer – Macross Zero (OAV)
Haishima is both the composer and sound planner for Other M. While Yamamoto’s eerie Metroid style of music will certainly be missed, it should be interesting to see another composer’s take on the game, given producer Yoshio Sakamoto’s vision.
