The Monk is one of several classes players can choose from in Baldur’s Gate 3. While not initially part of the Early Access period, it arrived with the full release of the game. One of the more complex character classes (bar any of the casting classes), the Monk excels in using polearms and their fists. Which already answers the questions many players may have, if they’ve never encountered this class before, as that’s what weapons should Monks in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Which Weapons Should Monks Use in Baldur’s Gate 3
To put it simply, Monks in Baldur’s Gate 3 should always use their fists. This is simply because their attacks will always focus around the use of their fists, even as they branch into one of three subclasses. Yes, you can use polearms to sweep enemies and make them prone, but I found simply pummeling away at enemies is effective (and strong enough) to generally be the best option. Even if you choose The Way of Shadow subclass, you will still be mostly using your fists after approaching enemies in stealth to pummel them into submission.
The Way of the Hand Monk is probably the most straightforward, as you will get extra hand attacks, which includes, you guessed it, more ways to hit opponents with your hands. This also comes with the Push and Stagger actions, which can leave enemies Prone or shove them into chasms if they’re at the edge of any particular cliff.
The Way of the Four Elements subclass combines the use of magic with your prowess over punching people to death. Specifically, the Fangs of the Fire Snake spell. Most everything you will use will require you within melee range, or will allow you to pull targets towards you with spells like Water Whip. But again, it comes to down punching. (Because it always does.)
There are also gloves in the game that even enhance your proficiency with unarmed combat, which should be equipped at all times. This in combination with the Nighstrider Boots make it easy to get to enemies, pummel them, and then teleport out if things get too dicey. You will also want to take the Tavern Brawler Feat as soon as available. But again, the best weapon you will have as a Monk in Baldur’s Gate 3 will always be your fists.
