Which Version Of Yo-kai Watch Busters Was More Popular In Japan?

On July 15th, Level 5 released Yo-kai Watch Busters, a multiplayer spin-off of their Yo-kai Watch series of RPGs, for the Nintendo 3DS. Busters was released in two versions—Red Cat Troupe and White Dog Unit—and we now have sales data on both.

Between both versions, Yo-kai Watch Busters sold 693,538 copies at retail in its first week. Interestingly, Japanese sales tracker Media Create reports that the White Dog Unit version sold far more than the Red Cat Troupe version did. The Red Cat Troupe version of the game sold approximately 271,000 copies, while White Dog Unit sold 420,000.

Media Create haven’t shared any theories as to why White Dog Unit outsold Red Cat Troupe by such a wide margin, but one possible reason could be that the former gives you a medal for Mighty Dog, while the latter gives you a metal for Red J. Additionally, Whisper is playable in the former, while Akamaru is playable in the latter.

Both games also mark the first appearance of USApyon, who will play a role in Yo-kai Watch 3.
