When you play Starfield, you’ll come across many planets you’ll want to survey and explore. More than 1,000 of them, in fact. You’re able to survey the planet from outer space by holding down the scan button while observing the planet in your Star Map (LB on Xbox). When you do this, you’ll learn about the various resources there. To fully survey a planet, though, you’ll generally have to scan the various flora and fauna on the planet surface, and even discover the various markers on it. Once you get a planet to 100% survey completion, you’ll receive a Starfield Survey Slate for it. You can then sell that for a lot of money.

The Survey Plates are valuable items that contain the data for the entire planet in Starfield. It just so happens you can even take these and sell them to an NPC for a fair bit of cash. What you want to do is head to Mars in the Sol System and to the main city of Cydonia there.

Head into the bar to the right of the entrance into the underground city and look for the kind man Phil sitting in the bar with a stack of papers in front of him. He’ll try to sell you on the idea of LIST (League of Independent Settlers) and your goal is to join his venture.

When you do, you’ll open up the option to recruit random NPCs you find throughout the galaxy to sign up for the program for cash. In addition, you can bring completed Survey Plates to him for cold hard credits as well.

How many credits you get for these plates will be based on various factors, such as how complex the planet is, how many resources it has, and the like. Basically, the longer it takes you to find all of the flora, fauna, resources, and the like, the higher your chances of bringing in the big bucks. I suggest bringing Phil the habitable planet slates.

Other than him, you can also sell slates to Vladimir, one of the members of Constellation. After completing the initial quest chain in the Sol System with Sarah, you’ll get a quest to visit Vladimir’s Eye space station above Jemison and New Atlantis. I suggest selling him the non-habitable planet data, such as for moons and the like.

Starfield is available on the Xbox Series X and PC.
