Final Fantasy XIV has dozens of materials for players to find and collect in Island Sanctuary. One of the most notable materials is the Island Hawks Eye Sand, which takes quite a bit of grinding to unlock and locate in FFXIV.

Requirements for Hawk’s Eye Sand

If you look at the gathering log’s entry for Hawk’s Eye Sand, it will say there is no specific tool requirement for it, which is somewhat true. However, there is a requirement to unlock the location for Hawk’s Eye Sand, which the game doesn’t tell you. You need to reach Sanctuary rank 16 or higher first.

At this point, you can then craft the Bestestest Mammet-sized Builder’s Tools. You can then take this tool to the Mammet NPC in the Mountain Hollow area of Island Sanctuary. He will then open up a new area for you where you can find this particular sand material.

Island Hawks Eye Sand FFXIV Location

The exact location for the FFXIV Island Hawks Eye Sand material is in the new Mother Lode region inside of the Mountain Hollow, which you unlock with the aforementioned Builder’s Tools. The coordinates for this area are roughly around X: 23.7 and Y: 21.7 on the map. Inside this small cave area, you want to look for the glowing Island Crystal Clusters.

Mine these, and you will get Island Hawk’s Eye Sand every single time. Better yet, this area is in a glorious near-perfect circle, so you can run around it for as long as you want, gathering up this sand material for various workshop projects.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PS4, PS5, and PC. It will also come out for Xbox Series X/S in February 2024 in open beta.
