Plenty of Final Fantasy XVI Notorious Mark bulletins on the Hunt Board like to get cute and give a title and “???” location, rather than a name. This means exploration is critical to actually taking down the foe. When you’re going through the “Brotherhood” mainline quest, it’s the perfect time to go hunting for Usher to the Underworld Thanatos in Final Fantasy XVI. The enemy should be about the same level as you, and you’ll get a much-needed crafting material in return.

So where do you find Usher to the Underworld Thanatos in Final Fantasy XVI?

Basically, you’ll need to find and face the Usher to the Underworld Thanatos in Final Fantasy XVI to obtain the Darksteel crafting material. This Notorious Mark is one of the only sources I’ve found. The announcement on the Hunt Board references Titan’s Wake in the Dhalmekian Republic. Thankfully, the enemy is… basically exactly where those words are on the map. Teleport into the area via the Kretov fast-travel point, head east along the only path, and the opponent will be right there when the road splits. I took a screenshot to show exactly where he is, and you can see it below.

Thanatos is based on those Fallen enemies that likes to open up their whole chest and scream a devastating energy beam at you. This rank-A Notorious Mark appeared at level 42 when I faced it, and I was at level 43 at the time. It started the fight by using Spirits Without, that ranged energy attack I just mentioned. However, also beware of the AOE attack Destrudo.

When you win, you only get one item as a spoil for beating Thanatos in Final Fantasy XVI: Darksteel. It’s a necessary crafting component, however. You also get 9,000 EXP, 110 AP, 17,000 gil, and 45 renown.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5. A demo is out now as well. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
