Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most challenging parts of the game as story bosses and the entire Gauntlet of Shar segment mark a huge difficulty shift from the first act. As a result, some players might be asking, “what level should I be for Act 2 in BG3?”

What Level Should You Be at the Start of Act 2 in BG3?

To be clear, the maximum level you can be in BG3 without any mods is 12. This includes any and all classes you roll for your characters. So, if you multi-class, your total between the classes can still only be 12. The level we recommend you should be for Act 2 in BG3 depends on your difficulty setting. However, in general, you should be no lower than level five.

We highly recommend reaching at least level six before you go to the blighted lands that are the main setting for Act 2. This will give you the fairest chance against most enemies. You should also end this act and go into the final one at at least level eight or nine. If you are playing on a higher difficulty level, such as Honor Mode, you should try to do everything in the game and get to level six or seven, if possible, to have the best chance to succeed.

How to gain XP and Level up Faster in BG3

Of course, with only so many levels available in BG3, it can take a lot of time and effort to accumulate enough experience to level up. Your best bet is to fight every enemy you come across, clear out the maps in the game, and do every possible side quest. Some players miss parts of Act 1, which can be invaluable in reaching the recommended level for Act 2.

For instance, there are four different ways to reach Act 2. If you go through the mountain pass, you might not know about the Zhentarim Hideout and so on. You can visit these areas, like the Githyanki Chance, anytime you want until you beat Act 2, so it is great to visit these places you missed before and complete them for XP.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available right now for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
