How does the FAX Machine work in Pacific Drive?

FAX Machine is short for Frequency Analyzer and X-tractor Machine, according to the Fabrication Station description. It’s a communication device used for transmitting short messages. Every time you visit the Auto Shop, it will beep if a new message has arrived. These messages are random and are mostly flavor text to emphasize the strangeness of the Zone.

The FAX Machine is also the place to store any files you find in the Zone during Pacific Drive. You can usually find audio or text files that are stored as items in your inventory. Rather than have them take space in your lockers or trunk, you can store these in the FAX Machine instead. To do this, either press the interact button when looking at the messages or hold the button when looking at the machine in the garage. Then, selecting any file from your inventory on this screen will transfer the file to the machine’s memory.

How do I build the FAX Machine in Pacific Drive?

The FAX Machine is one of the upgrades available on the downwards route on the Garage page of the Fabrication Station. You’ll need to unlock the previous upgrades on this route before you can access it. You will also need to unlock the Circuit Board crafting recipe first.

Once it’s available, you will need these items:

  • 0.3 kLIM Stable Energy
  • 1 Circuit Board
  • 5 Copper Wire
  • 20 Plastic

Simply craft the item from the Fabrication Station, and it will provide a large tube containing the machine. Pick it up and you’ll be able to place it just outside the door to the side room containing the Fabrication Station.

Pacific Drive is out now for the PS5 and PC.
