The latest version of The Last of Us Part 2 offers plenty of behind the scenes content for players. Among them are the three lost levels you can explore as bonus content in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered offers the following lost levels to play:
The lost levels are small snippets of gameplay that were cut from the game. The scenes were cut due to pacing, and all three ended up appearing as smaller sections or similar situations in the game proper. These scenes were cut early in development, so the content is very rough and missing assets. However, it’s interesting to see the kind of content that ends up on the cutting room floor.
Here is the list of the three lost levels:
- The Hunt
- Jackson Dance
- Seattle Sewers
Jackson Dance offers an extended sequence of the flashback the night before Ellie’s journey begins. Seattle Sewers features some cut water puzzles during the section when Ellie has to explore the sewers. Finally, The Hunt is a playable section at the end of the game dealing with Ellie and a wild boar.
While it’s great just to play around with cut content, Naughty Dog actually went a step further. The Last of Us Part 2 Director Neil Druckmann introduces and sets up each scene in the game. From here, within levels, there are optional audio commentaries throughout.
This is more than just a simple explanation for each one, many of the commentary tracks offer insight into the overall place the scene had in the game. I found this to be a definite highlight of the remaster. There are so many layers to how a game is put together, and much of the commentary discussed how scenes did or did not add to the overall story.
The Last of Us II Remastered is available exclusively on the PS5.
