You’ll likely spend a ton of time in Starfield flying around in your ship, so it pays to have the best ship you can get as early as possible. After all, the space combat in this game can be a bit of a challenge compared to the on-the-ground action. Fortunately, these are the best ships in Starfield you should consider getting, some of which are even free.
Best Ships for A-Class Pilots in Starfield
Divided up between the three ship classes in Starfield, the first set of best ships are the A-class. This is the default class every player can pilot in the game from the start. While the Frontier is a cute default ship, it won’t get you that far. There are two ships I highly recommend for everyone, starting with the Razorleaf.
The Razorleaf is an A-class ship you can get for free soon after starting the game by completing the Secret Outpost Mantis quest. This puzzle-themed quest only requires you to find a Secret Outpost note off of a space pirate, read it, and then follow the steps to complete the quest and earn this excellent ship.
The other ship, which is also totally free, is the Star Eagle. I highly prefer this ship over the Razorleaf due to its increased cargo capacity and defensive possibilities. To get this one, though, there is a bit more of a time commitment. You’ll need to complete the Freestar Collective Rangers faction storyline in its entirety to unlock it.
Best Ships for B-Class Pilots
If you upgrade your Piloting skill to rank three, you’ll be able to pilot B-class ships. The first of the two options I recommend for this one is the Aegis ship. This is quite similar to the Razorleaf, but upgraded quite nicely. You can buy it for almost 200,000 credits at the Deimos Staryard above Mars.
The other B-class ship I recommend is the Shieldbreaker. This costs around 240,000 credits from the ship technician in New Atlantis. It is a bulky ship that can take a hit, fire back quite nicely, and carry around a nice crew and cargo. With five crew members possible, it’s a nice option if you have the credits to spare.
Best Starfield Ships for C-Class Pilots
There is only one base C-class ship I recommend to players who reached the max rank in Piloting, and that is the Narwhal. There are similar C-class ships but this one is balanced so nicely between defense and offense. Plus, it has an incredible crew capacity for seven people to join you and help out.
All of this comes with a cost, though, and it is nearly 440,000 credits to buy it from Taiyo Astroneering on Neon in the Volii System.
Starfield is available for the Xbox Series X/S and PC.
