How do Lightning Charges work in BG3?

First and foremost, before you can start using lightning charges, you need to understand them. Lightning charges are a condition, much like poison. However, it is a positive condition for the affected person, much like a buff in a way. Whenever you have lightning charges, the electricity passes through you, and you gain the following buffs:

  • A general +1 to all attack rolls
  • An extra 1 lightning damage for each related spell and skill
  • Optional: If you reach five charges in total at once, you also gain an additional 1d8 lightning damage per attack

The catch with all of this is you lose a lightning charge each round of battle. As such, it can be difficult to keep this condition up.
