<< How to read and understand sales
Last week, Square Enix released Final Fantasy Type-0 HD in Japan, and the game sold 92,094 copies in its first week. Despite being a port of a PSP game, that’s a fairly low debut, but logic dictates that since Square developed Type-0 HD primarily for Western markets, it’s really the U.S. and European sales figures that one should be looking out for.
Meanwhile, a retail version of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 was released last week as well, and sold a combined total of 115,731 copies across PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in its first week. That’s less than the original Resident Evil: Revelations, which debuted at 147,000 units on the Nintendo 3DS, but again, this is a case of a game having been created primarily for the West, judging by the episodic release model.
Finally, it’s interesting to note that while major Japanese releases perform better on PlayStation 3 than on PlayStation 4, it’s the other way around in the case of Western-developed games. This was demonstrated once again last week with EA’s Battlefield: Hard Line selling more than twice the amount on the PS4 as it did on PS3. (Meanwhile, Resident Evil predictably sold more on PS3.)
And with that, the top-20 software sales chart for last week is as follows:
