Last week, Japan got three new releases with the most notable one being Dragon Quest Builder’s Nintendo Switch version, along with Rainbow Six Siege: Advanced Edition and Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of February 26 through March 4, 2018.
The top spot of the week goes to Monster Hunter: World which sold 38,617 copies to chart at #1 for the sixth week straight. It is quickly approaching the 2 million retail milestone now at 1,928,890 units sold in Japan.
The first new title of the week is Dragon Quest Builders on Nintendo Switch with 28,430 units sold to chart at #2. The original game sold a whopping 319,385 copies in its debut (178,016 units on PS Vita and 141,369 units on PS4) but considering the Switch version is a simple port without much added to it, those numbers are pretty much expected.
Next up we have Splatoon 2 that continues fighting the good fight at #3 with 21,979 units sold on Switch. Following are two more key Nintendo Switch titles with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at #4 with 18,823 units sold and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which has been selling consistently well at 12,675 units sold.
As for other new titles of the week, Rainbow Six Siege: Advanced Edition made it to #9 with 8,042 units sold, which isn’t bad considering the original game released way back in December 2015 with a debut of 23,402 and it actually kept selling well enough to remain in the top-20 for a while. Lastly, Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima (Nobiata’s Treasure Island) charted at #13 with 4,948 units sold.
The PS4 numbers are going back to normal after the initial Monster Hunter: World boost with 20,070 units sold from the standard model and 6,499 units sold from the PS4 Pro model for a combined total of 26,569 units between the two. The Nintendo Switch was the top-selling hardware with 45,083 units sold to make 50.2% of all hardware sold in the week. Going by Media Create’s data, the Nintendo Switch has now sold 3,801,633 units in exactly one year and a day since its release in March 3, 2017.
