While much of the story of a FromSoftware game can come from playing and catching clues from lore as you play, there are also more overt insights into each one’s background. To help us prepare for the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, Bandai Namco released a story trailer that explains everything going on in the new experience.

Ahead of this latest video, the initial February 2024 gameplay trailer for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree offered a bit of a teaser of what to expect from the story. We saw a darkened Erdtree in a land covered in shadows. There, Malenia’s brother Miquella’s arm is hanging out of a cocoon. That video’s narration noted, “Mother, wouldst thou truly Lordship sanction in one so bereft of light? I presume you too are keen to know just what kind Miquella is doing here.” It also said, “Touch the withered arm and travel to the realm of shadow.”

Ahead of the Elden Ring DLC launch, Bandai Namco is promoting the add-on. For example, there is a Return to Grace contest that is live and involves rewards like a life-size Arm of Malenia and Messemer the Impaler statue. In Japan, a The Overture of Shadow Erdtree Elden Ring book will appear with additional information about the new content.

Elden Ring is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Shadow of Erdtree DLC appears on June 21, 2024.
