The Philippines-made live-action adaptation of Voltes V will formally make its way to Japan in late 2024. Toei has announced that it will release Voltes V: Legacy first as a movie in theaters across Japan on October 18, 2024. The company will also air an edited version of the television series on the Japanese channel Tokyo MX in Fall 2024. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
The Japanese company will thus bring both Voltes V: Legacy – The Cinematic Experience which premiered in the Philippines in mid-April 2023 and the 90-episode television series which originally aired on GMA Network from May to November 2023. The movie will be available in Japan in two versions: one with the original Tagalog voiceovers and Japanese subtitles, and the other with Japanese dubs.
Toei has published a special movie on YouTube, but it is geo-locked to Japan only. The company also attached a video combining scenes from the original 1977 anime with the newer live-action adaptation on the title’s Japanese X account that is also more widely available to watch:
As a side note, Toei confirmed the Japanese release of Voltes V: Legacy right on the 47th anniversary day of the original anime’s first episode airing on June 4, 1977. Meanwhile, Bandai has released a Shokugan Modeling Project kit of the original Voltes V robot. The latter also confirmed plans to release new figures based on the live-action adaptation.
Voltes V: Legacy will be available in Japan first as a movie in theaters on Friday, October 18, 2024. Toei will also air the TV series on Tokyo MX in Fall 2024.
