Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown Is Made by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega AM2

Virtua Fighter is coming back. On June 1, 2021, Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown will debut on the PS4. As expected, it’s a new look at an old game. However, one unexpected developer is behind it. In addition to Sega AM2, Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG Studio) is working on it. [Thanks, IGN!]

This new version of Virtua Fighter 5 is a 60th anniversary project that uses the RGG Studio Dragon Engine. Its opening cinematic is all new. Character models and graphics will be remade. There will also be new UI, online elements, and music for stages. When people play online, there will be options for up to 16 people in a lobby, with some able to watch others fight. There will also be round robin tournaments.

Here’s the first trailer. It offers an opportunity to see how different characters and stages will look. It also shows off how the lighting changes influence its appearance.

RGG Studio is primarily known for the Yakuza series and its spin-offs like Judgment and Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin!. However, it also worked on Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD. Its other most recent games are Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Lost Judgment.

Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown will appear on the PlayStation 4 on June 1, 2021.
