U.S. Nintendo 3DS Sales At 159,000 In March, Wii U At 70k

While the NPD Group does not share sales figures publicly any longer, research analyst David Gibson has shared a few hardware figures for the month of March. In a tweet, Gibson provided the following figures from March’s NPDs:

  • Nintendo 3DS – 159,000
  • Wii U – “just over” 70,000
  • Wii – 28,000
  • PS Vita – “little over” 10,000
  • PSP – “around” 5,000

It looks like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze’s release is doing very little for Wii U hardware sales. Nintendo’s strategy of releasing one mascot platformer after another will need rethinking if they want to move more consoles.

Meanwhile, thanks to Microsoft, we know that the Xbox One sold 311,000 units during the month of March, and that Xbox 360 sold 111,000 units. PlayStation 4 was the highest-selling platform for the month, but sales figures for that system and PlayStation 3 have not been shared publicly yet.
