Tsukihime Remake Officially Goes Gold

Tsukihime Remake

Tsukihime Remake development is officially completed, according an announcement by developer Type-Moon. The game, formally titled Tsukihime: A piece of blue glass moon, reached the “Master Up” state. This is the Japanese term for a development milestone akin to “going gold,” which is when a game is declared by its developers to be ready for commercial release. At that point, the game data is placed onto a finalized master media (like a disc or storage drive) and sent off for duplication (in the case of physical copies).

The tweet announcing the completion came from the official Type-Moon account. It was accompanied by some celebratory artwork featuring game protagonists Arcueid Brunestud and Shiki Tohno.

The message also asked fans to wait a little longer until Tsukihime Remake‘s planned August 26, 2021 release date.

Originally announced in 2008, Tsukihime Remake has been in some form of development for the past twelve years. It’s a remake of Tsukihime, Type-Moon’s breakout visual novel first released in 2000. The story follows high schooler Shiki Tohno, a boy who possesses Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. This is a special ability that allows him to see all things covered in “Lines of Death.” Shiki encounters Arcueid, a vampire princess, and is drawn deeper into a web of supernatural happenings.

Incorporating redone art, rewritten stories, and new content, Tsukihime Remake will cover the original’s two “Near Side” story routes. The Near Side routes star heroines Arcueid Brunestud and Ciel. Type-Moon’s plans to represent the the other three “Far Side” routes (featuring heroines Akiha, Hisui, and Kohaku) will be detailed “at a later time.”

Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon will release in Japan for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 26, 2021. No overseas release plans have been detailed. Melty Blood: Type Lumina, a new fighting game based on Tsukhime, will release in late September 2021.
