It turns out Taito decided to be rather sneaky about Touhou Spell Bubble. The Touhou Project and Puzzle Bubble mash-up with rhythm game elements launched on the Nintendo eShop in North America and Europe with pretty much no warning. It gives people activities like a solo campaign, challenge stages, and battle modes, with local multiplayer supported.
Touhou Spell Bubble is immediately available for $54.99/£49.99 in both regions normally. However, a launch sale is in effect. The 10% discount brings it to $49.49/£44.99 until November 8, 2020. A demo is immediately available for people to sample.
The Touhou Spell Bubble base game has 20 characters and 48 songs. There are also three $9.99 DLC packs immediately available that each add six extra songs and six challenge stages. These are Phase 1: Special Song Pack, Phase 2: Scarlet Devil Land Song Pack, and Phase 3: Shinra-Basho Music Pack.
Since a rhythmic version of Puzzle Bobble with Touhou Project heroines might be a difficult to visualize, here’s a launch trailer.
And, to show what to expect from the DLC, here’s a trailer showing off the new Special Song Pack Vol. 2 that was announced on October 14, 2020.
Here are some screenshots.
Touhou Spell Bubble is now available for the Nintendo Switch worldwide. It first ended up appearing in Japan back in February 2020, and it also had an Asian release with English subtitles.
