Too Kyo Games Teams Up With Studio Pierrot for Original Anime Akudama Drive

Earlier this week, Too Kyo Games announced a brand-new original anime project called Akudama Drive in collaboration with Studio Pierrot. You can watch the reveal trailer below:

The duo behind Danganronpa, creator Kazutaka Kodaka and character designer Rui Komatsuzaki, are behind the story concept for Akudama Drive, and the anime will be directed by Persona 4 The Golden anime director Tomohisa Taguchi. Apart from Komatsuzaki, Cindy H. Yamauchi (Divine Gate) will also design characters for the anime.

The anime’s tagline is ‘Everyone’s a villain’, and the story takes place in an alternate world where Kanto and Kansai once went to war, with Kansai losing and becoming a client state of Kanto. This led to Kansai developing in a unique manner. However, with the waning power of the police force, crimes became rampant, and criminals came to become known as ‘Akudama‘ (‘villain’). In this highly developed yet twisted society, Akudama shall fight each other to determine the true worth of their various ideals.

The Citizen (CV: Tomoyo Kurosawa)

“The Citizen” is a regular girl from a regular family, who worked a normal job like everyone else, and led a simple life. One thing after another gets her involved in Akudama crimes. She’s the type of person who doesn’t get depressed, and pushes forward positively no matter the problems she faces.

The Courier (CV: Yuuichirou Umehara)

“The Courier” is a genius at driving, and can handle any weapon. He grew up being made to carry things by adults. He has absolute confidence in his job, but is a bit of a workaholic. He’s a man of few words, but when he speaks, he always has the right words to say.

Akudama Drive will begin airing in Japan in July 2020. Too Kyo Games’ other projects include Death Come True, Death March Cluband Tribe Nine.
