Last week was Japan’s Golden Week holiday, and as such, popular software saw a slight increase in sales, alongside a boost in hardware sales for the Nintendo 3DS. Unfortunately, the 3DS was also the only platform that saw any kind of meaningful boost in sales during Golden Week.

 

The game that benefited most from the holiday was Yo-kai Watch, selling 62,777 copies during the week. Close behind it was Mario Golf: World Tour, which was a new release for the week. Mario Golf sold 49,889 copies.

 

Other recent popular releases such as Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call also managed to stay in the top 5 for the week, but sales took a dive following the #6 spot on the software sales chart. Everything below #6 sold less than 10,000 copies.

 

This is an alarming state of affairs, but unfortunately, it isn’t unexpected. Golden Week sales weren’t particularly impressive last year either.  Here’s a look back at the top-20 software sales chart during Golden Week for the past four years:
