Resident Evil 6 was last week’s big release in Japan, and demonstrated the strength of a popular brand once again, by moving a large number of copies on the PlayStation 3 and an additional few on the Xbox 360. Here’s how Resident Evil 6 sold in its first week:

Resident Evil 6 (PS3) – 634,933

Resident Evil 6 (360) – 41,652

For comparison, here’s what Resident Evil 5’s first week sales looked like back in 2009:

Resident Evil 5 (PS3) – 319,590

Resident Evil 5 (360) – 79,157

It should be interesting to see how Resident Evil 6 holds up in the weeks to come. Meanwhile, the PSP also saw two new releases—Summon Night 5 with 51,453 copies sold and Sol Trigger with 42,037 copies sold.

Next week’s chart will tell us how Bravely Default, Project X-Zone, and Time and Eternity sold in their first week.
