The Two Ninja Gaidens Of The Future

Recommended Videos

Team Ninja have two Ninja Gaiden games in the works as far as we know: Ninja Gaiden 3 for consoles and a Ninja Gaiden for the Nintendo 3DS, each with a different focus.

Ninja Gaiden 3 was first announced at the Tokyo Game Show last year, but Team Ninja refrained from giving away any details on the game, aside from telling the press that it would explore the character of Ryu Hayabusa in greater depth.

This game, they recently tweeted via their new Twitter account, will be playable at E3 2011, so more news isn’t far off.

Meanwhile, Ninja Gaiden for the Nintendo 3DS was announced at E3 2010, alongside Dead or Alive: Dimensions, when Nintendo showed the device off to the public for the first time. This game is still in the planning stages, and will be based off Team Ninja’s experiences developing Dimensions for the 3DS.

“One thing we felt when making Dimensions is that players view and treat console and portable games completely differently. This is something that needs to be reflected in the game design as well,” Team Ninja head, Yosuke Hayashi, told Siliconera.

He continued: “In fact, we are discussing daily about the way to make a 3D action game such as Ninja Gaiden into something that would be appropriate for a portable game system. When we get this answer just right, we will show it to all of you so stay tuned.”

Team Ninja’s previous portable Ninja Gaiden game was Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword for the Nintendo DS, which had you hold the system sideways in “tate mode” and was controlled using the DS touchscreen.
