The Onion Games Moon English Version Is 40% Complete

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Back when the Nintendo Switch version of Onion Games’ Moon was announced, the company confirmed it would be released worldwide for the first time. When it first came up, it had an October 10, 2019 Japanese release date and the English window was “not too long afterward.” The latest update from Onion Games Founder Yoshiro Kimura now confirms a delay, pushing it out of a possible 2019 release window.

Kimura’s update provided details on what is going on with the Moon English release and why it is taking so much time. He said that it is a “very delicate” process and noted, “I know we said the English release of moon would be ‘coming very soon,’ and clearly that was a little optimistic.”

As part of the update, Kimura noted that Moon is about 40% finished and offered a breakdown of how far along things are. Here is his exact breakdown.

The localization of moon is actually going great! But there are many, many more things involved than just translating the text. I’d say that the translation itself is more than 70% done, implementing that translation is around 20% done, and then debugging and checking the translation is about 5% done.

While Kimura doesn’t offer an updated release window, he does note at the end of the update that, “I have been working too much this year. I need just a little time to recover ahead of everything we’ll have coming in 2020.”

Moon is immediately available on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation in Japan. It will be released on the Nintendo Switch worldwide. In Spring 2020, a new version of its soundtrack will be released.
