During today’s livestream, apart from the final ten games, Sega also revealed that there will be a special version of the Mega Drive Mini titled the Mega Drive Tower Mini, which includes the various extra add-ons released.
This set, named after the hulking abomination that was the Mega Drive stacked with extra parts, includes a mini Super 32X, a mini Mega CD, a mini Lock-on cartridge of Sonic & Knuckles, and of course, a mini Mega Drive cartridge of Sonic the Hedgehog. The special edition will launch together with the regular version on September 19, and will cost 3,980 yen.
Sadly, just as the Mega Drive Mini isn’t actually capable of playing Mega Drive cartridges (and Sonic & Knuckles being absent from the lineup as well), these extra parts are also just here for show. Fortunately this means you also don’t have to deal with the mess of wires that connected everything originally.l
The Sega Genesis Mini/Mega Drive Mini (and the special Mega Drive Tower Mini) will be released on September 19, 2019 worldwide.
