The DioField Chronicle, a new tactical RPG from Square Enix, made its debut as part of Sony’s March 9, 2022 State of Play presentation. It’s slated for release sometime in 2022. In addition to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, the game will launch on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Using what it calls a “Real-Time Tactical Battle” system, The DioField Chronicle uses a free movement system and RTS-style point-and-click controls to position and fight. Special attacks use portrait cut-ins, like we’ve previously seen in games such as Fire Emblem.

The world of The DioField Chronicle is comprised of three nations. The Trovelt-Schoevian Empire and Rowetale Alliance are at war. The nearby Kingdom of Alletain, initially isolationist, is thrust into the conflict.

A post on the official Square Enix site details more about the game. Lancarse, a studio that’s worked on games like Monark and Persona Q2, is co-developing the title with Square Enix. The team has experience in the tactical space, working on 2014’s Lost Dimension.

The game’s characters were designed by Taiki, with concept art from Isamu Kamikokuryo. Fire Emblem veteran Yuu Ohshima is credited with scenario design.

The March 9, 2022 State of Play presentation also included the reveal of Valkyrie Elysium, as well as Exoprimal and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R.

The DioField Chronicle, developed by Square Enix and Lancarse and published by Square Enix, will launch later in 2022. It’ll appear on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Switch and PC.
