Stoic Studio has announced that its epic Viking strategy-RPG The Banner Saga is heading to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 12th 2016.

There are not any changes to the game as it played on PC and mobile except, of course, the controls have been rehauled to work with gamepads and a controller interface.

Unfortunately, the previously planned PlayStation Vita version of The Banner Saga has been put on hold. Writing on Stoic’s forums, founder John Watson explained that the first company paid to port The Banner Saga folded after many months of work, leaving Stoic out of pocket and without a port.

This meant that another company had to be paid to handle the console ports and, unfortunately, the budget set out for it only covered the big console releases.

“I have been excited about the Vita port since day one, and I would love to see the Banner Saga running on my own Vita.” writes Watson. “The realities, however, of a very small team and a limited budget, put an immutable check on the speed of our progress.”

He notes, however, that if the initial costs of porting the game to consoles can be covered, the PS Vita version of The Banner Saga will then be reconsidered.
