After being teased (and later confirmed by Director Katsuhiro Harada) for The Game Awards 2022, Tekken news appeared. There was a new Tekken 8 trailer, which showed off several new gameplay features and its story. Many returning characters made appearances in it.
The gameplay of Tekken 8 will focus on “Aggressive” tactics, including attacks that shake the screen and destructible environments. The game will also have an all-new “Heat System” mechanic, which activates attacks with special moves and gives characters ability enhancements. In terms of story, Tekken 8 will be a continuation of the grudge matches between the Mishima and Kazama bloodlines. It will pick up where Tekken 7 left off.
Several fan-favorite characters were shown in the new trailer. Kazuya Mishima, Jin Kazama, Paul Phoenix, King, Marshall Law, Lars Alexandersson, and Jack-8 will all be present in the game. Additionally, Jun Kazama, Jin’s mother, will return after a long absence from the series.
The upcoming entry in the hit fighting game series was likely first teased back in August 2022. Its actual reveal came about a month later as part of a PlayStation State of Play event, in the form of a nearly two-minute-long trailer.
Tekken 8 will release for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. A release date has not yet been announced.
