Tetris 99’s Splatfest-Themed Maximus Cup Comes With Splatoon 1 Music

We reported early this month that the latest Tetris 99 Maximus Cup will be Splatoon-themed in honor of Splatoon 2’s Final Splatfest, and Nintendo has shown off the new theme for the game that comes with some very nostalgic music for those who played the original game.

The UI will be painted in a sea of colors, and Inkling sound effects will play when you clear lines. The tracks used are ‘Splattack!’ for 99-51 players left, ‘Ink or Sink’ for 50-11 players left, and obviously ‘Now or Never’ for the final 10 players. All tracks are by in-game fictional band Squid Squad, and come from the original Splatoon.

Like the Game Boy Tetris theme, any player can earn this theme during the Maximus Cup period by collecting 100 points total. The Tetris 99 Splatoon 2 Maximus Cup will be held July 12-16, 2019.
