We reported back in July last year that Tencent was planning to bring over their WeGame digital platform as a direct competitor to Steam, and it has finally happened. WeGame X, the international version of WeGame that’s based on Hong Kong, is now available.
Currently, the service is in Early Access, as Tencent is still testing out the platform. The storefront shows around 30 games or so, including games like iCEY and My Time in Portia. It seems it will take a while before the store is fully featured.
With WeGame X, more Chinese games will become available for the global audience, especially as their are fewer hoops to jump through in order to get the game released compared to the strict screening and approval process in China. Tencent has also invested in various companies like Blizzard, Ubisoft, Epic Games, and more over the years, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see their games on WeGame X as well.
