Tencent announced today via their Weibo account that they are expanding their digital lock restriction scheme that took effect from March from minors below 13 years old to minors below 16 years old. [Thanks, Bahamut!]
As previously discussed, this restriction was put in place to limit the time children would be able to spend on video games to 2 hours a day. Furthermore, minors applicable to the restriction would not be able to register new accounts without guardian permission.
This change would mean that minors up to 15 years old will need to go through these procedures as well in order to play video games. Furthermore, Tencent wrote that they are testing out this restriction for minors 16+ years old as well, so in the future, all minors may have to go through this restriction.
