Tencent Helping J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Form A Video Game Division

Film director J.J. Abrams’ company Bad Robot is making a video games division, and it’s being funded by Chinese tech giant Tencent. [Thanks, Hollywood Reporter!]

 

The announcement came on Thursday by Bad Robot president and COO Brian Weinstein, where it was announced that Bad Robot Games would be formed in partnership with Tencent. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will also be a minority investor.

 

The studio is being headed by David Baronoft, who has created titles based on Cloverfield, while Tim Keenan will be creative director. Bad Robot Games will focus on developing games by Abrams and Bad Robot. Tencent will have the distribution rights to all the studio’s games in Asia.
