Nyu Media is publishing ASTRO PORT’s 1970s giant robot anime-inspired side-scrolling shooter Supercharge Robot VULKAISER on June 4th. You’ll be able to purchase it for $4.99 on Steam for Windows and Linux.
If you’ve played ASTRO PORT’s previous 2D shmups such as Gigantic Army and Satazius you’ll know to expect action-packed levels full of more explosions than is possible to count. But the darker look of those games is swapped out for a much brighter, campier sheen thanks to its homage to anime.
Set in 1977, there are six stages to beat in total across which you’ll pilot the giant robot VULKAISER, working alongside your VulFighter teammates to defend the Earth from the invading Gogoh Army. As if a sentai TV show, you can also combine your giant robot with the VulFighter craft to form a Rocket KAISER, Needle KAISER, Thunder KAISER, and Drill KAISER.
Also on offer are four levels of difficulty, 34 achievements, and online leaderboards for the competitive.
