The Story of Seasons series has a long history of being on handheld devices, and the newest installment in the series, Story of Series: Trio of Towns keeps up with that theme, with its 3DS release slated for next year in North America. In a recent interview with RPGSite, producer Yoshifumi Hashimoto explained the reasoning behind keeping so many of the series’ titles on handhelds, as well as what it would take to move it to consoles.

Here is an excerpt from the interview, in which Hashimoto said the following:

So first of all, we get more of the North American fans’ voices that they want this game to go to this console. If we get a lot more feedback like that, maybe we will start being more concerned about that. We choose the platform depending on the number of users on that console. We have younger generations of fans like kids playing Story of Seasons. Kids like to have a handheld system, so we tend to focus on that userbase.

Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns will release in 2017 for the Nintendo 3DS.
