Back in late 2019, The Game Awards added a new experience it called The Game Festival. Running on Steam, people were able to experience hands-on demos at home, giving them a taste of the trade-slash-award show perks. The Game Awards figurehead Geoff Keighley then brought The Game Festival back in March 2020, to help developers affected by GDC’s COVID-19 postponement. Now Keighley announced the same treatment is happening this summer, starting the day E3 2020 was supposed to.
Traditionally, The Game Festival has been exclusive to PC gaming, largely because of its focus on indie titles and being hosted on Steam. Steam still seems to be a big part of the event and the primary host. However, Keighley’s announcement also notes that more platforms will be somehow included. No details are available for that part yet, but you can register on the official website to receive more details as they roll out.

The Steam Game Festival Summer Edition will run from June 9, 2020 to June 11. E3 2020 was supposed to run from June 9 to June 14, 2020, but was cancelled earlier this year due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. While E3 itself is waiting to make its comeback next year, a few events like this are stepping up to help facilitate announcements originally planned for the ESA’s event.
