The Square Enix work-from-home program is expanding into a permanent fixture for the company. On November 25, 2020, it announced “a permanent and core program” that will allow “all executive officers and employees” to have the option of working at home on its site. Square Enix, Square Enix Holdings, and Luminous Production staff will be able to participate in it and become “home-based” employees starting on December 1, 2020, with the option of “monthly status changes” available as needed.
In the announcement, Square Enix went over some of the goals and expectations from the program. For example, people will be given the option of being home-based or office-based, depending on how many days they would work from either location and if their job would allow them to work from either situation. It also said such a program had been considered for a while and 80% of employees surveyed in June 2020 found it worked for them. It noted it expects “more diverse human resources” and “optimal work-life balance” as benefits of it.
Back in March 2020, Square Enix work-from-home endeavors began. The company announced its teams would shift to the program worldwide to work on games whenever possible. In cases where it wasn’t, it implemented measures to decrease the number of people who would be on location in an office at a time.
The permanent Square Enix work-from-home program will kick off on December 1, 2020. In its announcement, it said “approximately 80% of employees” could end up participating after it begins.
