Square Enix Was Prepared For Theatrhythm Fans This Time Around

On April 24th, Square Enix released Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call in Japan. The game sold 80,523 copies in its first week and sales tracker Media Create reports that it sold through 55.72% of its shipment.

A 55% sell-through would normally mean that too many copies of the game were shipped, but in this case, it would appear that was intentional. The first Theatrhythm game sold approximately 67,000 copies at launch, and did far better than retailers expected, selling through 90.04% of its shipment in its first week, leaving it out of stock in several stores.

As a result of this, retail supply was constrained for quite a while, and Theatrhythm was considered a case of opportunity loss, since the game could have sold more than it did, had it been available in stores for people to buy.

Meanwhile, Curtain Call has already sold more than its predecessor did at launch, and since there’s ample supply at retail this time around, Media Create say the game will sell steadily from this point on.
